Coordinated Revit model for Fire Protection System and fabrication drawings at 98% accuracy ensure hassle-free installation for Irish healthcare project
98% FTR (first time right) for all fire protection components
Quick and easy installation of fire protection systems
High client satisfaction (4/5) throughout project
Client Profile.
The client is an Irish engineering contracting firm that specializes in MEPF systems and offsite fabrication.
Business Need.
The client was working on the installation of MEPF systems for an industrial warehouse. For this they needed to prefabricate fire protection components and install them.
The client partnered with HitechDigital to deliver:
Coordinated and clash-free models of fire protection system in 3D BIM
Fabrication drawing such as builders work drawings and shop drawings for pre-fabrication of fire-protection systems
Project Samples.
Fire hose connection in corridor
Fire protection ceiling void model
Fire protection header room
Challenges.
The BIM team at HitechDigital faced multiple challenges as they took on the task:
Incorporating last minute changes during creation of the model increased rework and time taken
Ensuring delivery within a very short time frame while making sure other parallel MEP projects remain unaffected
Solution.
The BIM engineers at HitechDigital created an information-rich coordinated 3D model for fire protection using Revit. They generated clash reports in Navisworks. The team also created accurate fabrication drawings and complete documentation sets for various project stages, as per client need.
This helped the client in accurate prefabrication of fire protection components and error-free installation.
Approach.
A team comprising mid and senior-level resources was deployed; all input documents including 2D CAD drawings and sketches were analyzed; client-defined design rules were studied
They created a 3D model in Revit and enriched it with detailed information on fire protection components
The completed Revit model for fire protection was coordinated with other MEPF trades to ensure interference-free designs
The coordinated Revit MEPF model was sent to the client for a complete review along with clash detection reports generated through Navisworks
Once the model was approved by the client, shop drawings, sections, BOQs, and builders work drawings including sections were extracted from the model
Quality checks at multiple levels using predetermined specifications were carried out to verify accuracy
BIM360 was used to achieve real-time collaboration between multiple teams and trades
Tools and Technology used: Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, BIM360.
